2023 Mohs Technician Trainings

Improve your skills as a Mohs technician

The ASMH offers customized, hands-on training sessions through its Advanced Mohs Technician Training Program. This on-site training will include lecture and hands-on training on topics such as mapping and inking, embedding, staining, cryosectioning, CLIA regulations, troubleshooting, and more. This program is designed to enhance both the performance and quality of work of established Mohs technicians - those with at least six months of experience in Mohs. Please note that this training is not an official Histotech Certification program, nor is it intended for techs with no experience.

  • Registration fees will be $1,000 member, $1,250 nonmember.
  • Non-member registration will include ASMH membership through 2023 for qualified technicians.
  • $50 discount per trainee for practices sending more than one technician.

Upon completion, trainees can claim 12 CEUs through the National Society for Histotechnology and will receive a certificate of completion from the ASMH/ACMS. Faculty

Norma L. Anderson, HT (ASCP)
Norma Anderson has more than 35 years of experience as a histologist, with more than 29 years at the University of Washington in Seattle. Anderson has worked as a histotechnologist in the Dermatologic Surgery Mohs Lab at UW since 2004, and been an American College of Mohs Surgery approved trainer since April of 2009. She has had the opportunity to travel abroad with the Blade and Light Society to Romania, Greece, Costa Rica and Bulgaria.

Linda R. Cesario, DPM, HT (ASCP)
Dr. Cesario is a certified histologist with almost 30 years of experience in the field of Mohs histology in hospital, research, and clinical settings. She is a graduate of Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine (DPM), Montclair State University (BS, Biology) and the Mountainside Hospital School of Histotechnology (HT, ASCP). She is also a certified Clinical Laboratory Technician. Dr. Cesario is a Past President of the ASMH and has served on the Board of Directors for the past 18 years. She is Director of the Mohs Technician Training Program and has been a charter Mohs Tech trainer since the program was implemented in 2005. She is also a lecturer for the ASMH/ACMS Annual Meeting. As an independent contractor, she has worked with more than 40 ACMS Mohs surgeons in the NY/NJ Metro area, giving her a wide range of technical experience. She taught in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences-accredited School of Histotechnology for 10 years, as well as training numerous Mohs technicians. She has also served as a slide reviewer on the ACMS Slide Quality Review Committee.

Daniel H. Gong, MS, MBA, C-PM, CWMP
Daniel Gong is the clinical service/laboratory manager for the UC Davis Dermatopathology Services/Mohs Laboratories. He has more than 27 years of clinical and research experience stemming from his work at UC Davis Health System and University of the Pacific, where he received his two Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Biological Science. Daniel is the ASMH President, the Mohs Technician Training Program Committee Associate Director, and holds a certification in Practice Management by the American Pathology Foundation. He is a lecturer/course faculty for the Annual Fundamentals of Mohs Surgery Course and Clinical Symposium in Dermatologic Surgery: Focus on Skin Cancer. Additionally, he lectures nationally, internationally, and at professional meetings. His technical areas of expertise include setup and maintenance of Mohs tissue processing, and paraffin, CLIA/CAP regulations and frozen section immunohistochemistry including direct immunofluorescence. He also serves as a slide reviewer on the ACMS Slide Quality Review Committee.

Marilyn McCulloch, CLT
Marilyn McCulloch is a New York State Licensed and Certified Mohs Technician with more than 20 years of experience. Currently employed at Columbia University, NYPH/Herbert Irving Cancer Center in New York City, McCulloch has been a member of ASMH since 1998 and an ACMS approved Mohs Technician Trainer since 2007. McCulloch is an ASMH Board Member and a co-author of the ACMS Manual of Frozen Section Processing for Mohs Micrographic Surgery.

About Mohs Technician Training

The Mohs Technician Training Program was created by the ACMS to elevate the national standard of Mohs histotechnology and is the only ACMS-approved training program designed to help current Mohs technicians improve their skills and learn new techniques. By working one-on-one with an ACMS-approved Mohs Technician trainer, your tech’s training will be tailored to provide troubleshooting tips in the areas he/she would like to learn about most.
